Christmas Events & Exhibits


December 1, 2007 " Lewis & Clark Christmas 1800's Style" in  Hermann, Missouri.    Enjoy the Spirit of Christmas past as you step back 200 years to a time when the frontier of our young nation was fresh, unknown & irresistible.  Festivities begin with -- 5pm Twilight Lantern Parade; 6:30 pm. December 1 - 31, 2007: "The William Clark Family Collection" at Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, Washburn, North Dakota.  The exhibit is made up of 12 cases and each case focuses on a different family member and embraces a different theme. Over 100 artifacts, some never put on display before.  More Info call 701-462-8535.


December 1 - 23, 2007: "St. Charles Christmas Traditions" in St. Charles, Missouri Create Holiday Memories in Saint Charles, Missouri with early Americana holiday festivities including carolers, chestnuts & authentically costumed Santas from around the world. December 7 - January 5, 2008: "Winter Garden Aglow" at Idaho Botanical Garden in Boise, Idaho.  Lewis & Clark Native Plant Garden light display.  Stroll the Lewis & Clark trail to the hilltop for a spectacular view of the valley below.  Then pause to gaze upon the beautiful bronze statue of Sacajawea.  It will be a holiday experience to remember.


December 8 - 9, 2007: "Arrival at Camp River Dubois" at Lewis and Clark State Historic Site in Hartford, IL. Come celebrate the arrival of Lewis and Clark to Camp River Dubois. This annual special event commemorates December 12, the day William Clark and the men of The Detachment arrived at the confluence of the Rivière á Dubois, Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. The event will include members of The Detachment portraying military life, re-enactors recreating the civilian population and demonstrators.  For more information call: 618-251-5811.


December 14, 2007 from 6:00 pm - 12:00 am: "Star Party" at Lewis & Clark National Historic Interpretive Center in Great Falls, Montana.  With cooperation from the USDA Forest Service, the Central Montana Astronomy Society hosts its monthly star party, a star-gazing experience with large telescopes set up for public viewing, and interesting explanations of the features being viewed. The Lewis and Clark Expedition relied on celestial observation to chart their course. Learn more about our night sky.  Additional activities include making Holiday cards with a constellation theme plus a special presentation on the "possible Origins of the Star of Bethlehem".

December 15, 2007 from 10 am - 11 am: "Story Book Saturday" at Anita B. Gorman Conservation Discovery Center, Kansas City, Missouri for ages 3 and up.    Learn about nature as you listen to stories about bears, foxes, trees and much more. December 15 - 31, 2007: "Candlelight Cave Tours" at Lewis & Clark Caverns, Montana. Montana's first and best-known state park showcases one of the most highly decorated limestone caverns in the Northwest. 
The tour is two miles in length and takes two hours to complete, including the hike from the visitor center to the cave. Reservations required call 406-  287-3541.

December 26, 2007 - January 1, 2008: "Gray Whale Watching Week" at Ecola State Park , Oregon.   In 1806, Clark documented and measured a beached gray whale.  Whale Watching Spoken Here® is a volunteer whale watching program during peak gray whale migration times.  For more information call Oregon Parks at  541-765-3407 ext. 3304.

 



December 27 -  29, 2007:  " Wintering Over" at  Fort Clatsop in Astoria, Oregon.  Meet the members of the expedition as they finish and move into their fort.
